Best Whitening Products for Sensitive Teeth (Dental Hygienist Tested)

A white smile always starts with a great oral hygiene routine. Making sure you have a good electric toothbrush and floss that you use consistently is key. Once you get your routine adding in some whitening products can help get your teeth to the shade of white that you are happy with. A whitening toothpaste will help maintainer whiteness to combat surface stain.

My whitening routine: Brush 2x/day using arm and hammer advanced white with my sonicare electric toothbrush. Burst floss daily and flush things out with my Waterpik 3-4x/week. Tongue scraper every night. I do not whiten daily since I maintain things with my whitening toothpaste and great oral hygiene routine. When I feel like I need to whiten I use the 45% whitening gel DAILY until I get to the whiteness I want. If you are someone who gets sensitive wait until the sensitivity goes away and the next time you whiten use it for less time. Once you get to the whiteness you like you only whiten with gel AS NEEDED. I like to touch up for special events and I do the same routine (whiten as often as I need to get to the whiteness I like)

Here are my favorite whitening products. I love the brand opalescence because they have fluoride in their products which helps with sensitivity.

Here are my top 3 whitening products:

1 —

Opalescence go

These have fluoride in them which is why they are great for sensitive teeth! These are similar to crest white strips and can be used on anyone (no custom trays needed). They come in 15% and 10%. I personally think 15% is best and you can just adjust how long you use them if you are someone who gets more sensitive.

Directions for 15%: Remove tray from packaging. Position upper tray on teeth. Bite firmly, then suck on tray for 2 seconds. Remove colored outer tray, leaving the white inner tray on teeth. Repeat the process for the lower tray. After 15-20 minutes, remove whitening trays and brush teeth

2 —

45% WHITENING GEL (FOR CUSTOM TRAYS)

You need custom whitening trays for these which you do need to get at a dental office unless you already have them. (I have also used my Invisalign retainers) Again these are great because they have fluoride in them to help with sensitivity. The 45% you wear 15-30 min and can wear less if you are someone who gets sensitivity.

3 —

Arm and Hammer advanced white toothpaste

This is a great daily toothpaste to combat stain from all of the food/drinks throughout the day. It does have a baking soda taste but my teeth feel squeeky clean after using it. I drink coffee daily so I think having a good whitening toothpaste is key to maintaining a white smile.
